Happy 2025!
A new year, a fresh start, lots of ambitious goals and new year resolutions! Sounds great! Feels great!...but… how do we make it last past Jan 6 and through the whole year?
After many years of trial and error I have found a strategy that works for me. Let me tell you about it and maybe you can take the parts that work for you.
How are you? I like to start my day with a moment with myself to check in on how I feel. I do it every day but it looks different every day: some days I sit on my meditation pillow for 20 minutes; some days I go for a run; some days I do some yoga; some days I just drag myself from the bed to the couch and contemplate the ceiling…I do my best, knowing that “my best” is not the same every day!
Three priorities: I always try to set 3 priorities for my day, 3 achievable things that need to happen for my day to be a success. Here too, some days are less ambitious than others, and sometimes life happens and I do none out of 3,and that’s ok too.
Pro tip! Set the 3 (work) priorities for the next day at the end of the work day and re-adapt in the morning if needed.
Long term goals: I love learning so for me this often looks like a list of courses I like to take, or books I want to read. I am not too strict with it, but I like to make a little plan for myself…I am a project manager after all!
Don’t forget to have fun! This is something I had to learn as an adult: not every second of life needs to be productive! Sometimes it is great to just have fun!! This year I want to finally master my handstands, learn to play tennis, spend more time on the jiu jitsu mat, guide more breathwork sessions, and spend more time in nature. Let’s see in December how much of that actually happened!!
Does this sound like a strategy that could work for you too? Give it a try and let me know how you adapted it to your life!
Best wishes of a fun, grounded and satisfying 2025!
